Activity groups are the heart and soul of our organization. They provide opportunities to make friends with people who have the same interests as you while enjoying all that La Jolla has to offer. Some activities listed may vary slightly each year. Newcomer members initiate new groups each adding an exciting dimension to the organization.
Please note attendance to some interest group activities is limited.
SOCIAL AND DINING
COFFEE AROUND TOWN - Meets the second Friday of every month at 10:00 am to promote friendship and goodwill among Newcomers.
HAPPY HOUR AROUND TOWN - Offers the opportunity to socialize with fellow LJNC members at a variety of restaurants and enjoy Happy Hour prices on food and/or drinks. Usually meets the second Thursday of the month during selected restaurants' Happy Hours.
OUT TO LUNCH - Meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at a selected restaurant.
WEDNESDAY EVENING AT THE LOT - Meets the 1st Wednesday of each month to see a movie and socialize at THE LOT on Fay Ave. An eblast is sent one week in advance to announce a specific movie. Participants buy their own tickets online.
WINE SOCIALS - A very popular gathering which meets several times a year to experience different styles of wines along with small bites and desserts at a selected location.
STUDY AND DEVELOPMENT
ART GROUP - Periodic visits to museums, galleries, and collections.
ARTS & CRAFTS – Do small projects in a group setting. Meets on the fourth Monday of the month.
DAYTIME BOOK GROUP - This group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
CRITICS' CHOICE – Meets on the first Friday of the month at 7:30 pm on Zoom to critique a pre-selected film.
CRITICS' CHOICE – Daytime – Meets on the second Monday of each month at 2:00 pm.
WALL STREET MONTH - This investment discussion group meets on the second Tuesday of each month on Zoom. We welcome all members to bring their ideas, opinions, and to share information about the stock market. Solicitations will not be permitted.
CARDS AND BOARD GAMES
MAH JONGG – Meets every Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
POKER – This group will play Texas Hold’em mixed with Dealer’s Choice. The group meets in the afternoon and rotates playing at a variety of hosting homes.
INDOOR/OUTDOOR RECREATION
BOCCE – Meets on the third Tuesday of the month. Two sessions are offered. The first meets at 11:30 am for new/less experienced players interested in learning the game’s fundamentals. The second session meets at 1:00 pm for those with a reasonable level of experience who are interested in playing a social game.
GOLF – "PITCH, PUTT AND PINT" - Tee times are scheduled the third Wednesday of each month at Mission Bay Golf Course for nine-hole rounds. This activity encourages men and women with various abilities to play with different members, promoting fun plus post-game socializing.
HIKING - Meets usually once a month to explore San Diego's various hiking spots that vary from easy to moderate.
SATURDAY MORNING WALKERS - Meets two times a month at 9:00 am for walks on Saturday mornings in various locations around La Jolla.
